The Hillsboro High School track team competed on April 8 at the Marion Invitational track meet.
In a field of eight teams, the Hillsboro boys' team took first place with 191 points.
Teams competing were Hillsboro, Marion, Halstead, Remington, Chase County, El Dorado, Peabody-Burns, and Smoky Valley.
The girls' team took second with 105, following first place Smoky Valley with 147.66.
"It is obvious by looking at the team totals that both the boys and the girls had good starts to their track and field seasons," head coach Dennis Boldt said.
Boldt felt that the marks by the team were exceptional for this time of the year. According to Boldt, everyone who competed brought home a medal.
Highlight for the day was senior Daniel Yoder's 800-meter race which he ran close to his school record of a year ago.
Freshman JuliAnne Chisholm attempted to break the school record in high jump, but her attempt failed.
Boldt said he was pleased with the team atmosphere that the student-athletes have shown.
"These kids are not only successful in what they do, they are having fun doing it," he said. "As a head coach, I cannot ask for any more than that."
