HHS Chess Guild receives grant
The Hillsboro High School Chess Guild recently was notified that it will receive a $500 grant from Hillsboro Community Foundation.
The foundation's board of directors voted to fund the Hillsboro Area Impact Fund grant request.
The grant will allow one guild team member the opportunity to attend chess camp this summer at the world-renowned Anatoly Karpov International School of Chess at Lindsborg. Guest instructor for the 2008 summer camp is Grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian, winner of the 2007 World Open.
The summer chess camp provides chess instruction with highly-qualified chess teachers. Leadership and additional training will encourage members to bring their new-found knowledge and enthusiasm for the game of chess back to their teams.
Each camper will be given chess materials to improve their chess knowledge. The weeklong overnight camp is housed at Bethany College and begins with a simultaneous game with Grandmaster Akobian.
