HHS forensics team places 13th at state years ago

The Hillsboro High School forensics team placed 13th out of 44 schools at the 3A state forensics championships held Saturday at East High School in Wichita.

"The 3A State Championships is the most difficult class of forensics competition because of the extensive number of highly competitive teams," sponsor Terry Bebermeyer said.

Bebermeyer said that the HHS program is strictly an extracurricular program with no class time for practice in comparison to the other teams who have multiple forensics classes.

"Placing 13 out of 44 teams with two individual medals is an awesome accomplishment," Bebermeyer said. "It shows a great deal of dedication on the part of our students, and I am very proud of them."

Results of the state forensics championships are as follows: Kelli Just placed fourth in poetry interpretation; Emily Railsback, fourth in original oration; and Karl Magnuson and Railsback, 10th in duet acting.

At the state forensics festival, Whitney Allen, Victor Rogers, and Elissa Richert all received a I rating in prose.

"This was perhaps the busiest, most productive, and yet most challenging of my past years with HHS forensics," Bebermeyer said.

"We had more students involved, went to more contests, and qualified more students for state than ever before; however, with that came the challenge of finding the right material to fit each student's personality and ability," Bebermeyer added.
