Hillsboro High School cross country coach Stuart Holmes can't complain these days.
For the second week in a row his boys' cross country team dominated the field, earning seven medals and taking first Saturday at the Wamego meet.
Daniel Bookless led the Trojans for the second week in a row, finishing sixth on the 3.1-mile course with a time of 18 minutes, 17 seconds.
Sean Leihy and Cody Niedfeldt finished 11th and 12th respectively with times of 18:34 and 18:37.
The next two Trojans runners finished back-to-back as well. Isaac Leihy (25th) and Nate Holmes (26th) finished with times of 19:33 and 19:36.
Rich Johnson was next at 30th with a time of 19:46, and Thad Holmes rounded out the Trojan field with a time of 19:55, good enough for 34th-place.
"The boys' depth made the difference today," he said. "Our fifth guy was 15-20 places ahead of the other top teams' fifth-place finisher."
The girls' team finished ninth out of 14 teams. Carrie Schroeder was the top Trojans finisher at 19th with a two-mile time of 14:30.
Jacque Fisher just missed out on a medal with a 31st-place finish after running the race in 15:11.
Elissa Richert (45th), Greta Kliewer (52), Courtney Fast (56th), and Megan McCarty (79th) were the rest of the girls' finishers.
"It was great to see all the girls improve their time from last week," Holmes said.
In fact 11 runners, Schroeder, Fast, Bookless, Holmes, Leihy, Victor Rogers, Tyrel Blecha, Johnny Christiansen, Matt Klenda, and Brandon McMillen, all recorded personal records at the race.
HHS will travel Saturday to Lawrence to compete in the Rim Rock race.
"The competition will be very good with teams from Missouri and Nebraska as well as Kansas," Holmes said.
