HHS harriers compete at Hesston

Hillsboro High School cross country teams competed in the Hesston Invitational last Thursday at Hesston.

Forty-nine teams competed at the meet. In the 3-2-1A boys' competition, Ellsworth placed first with 14 points followed by Hesston second with 37, and Hillsboro third with 39.

The Hillsboro girls' team placed 19th.

"Almost everyone improved their time substantially," Coach Stuart Holmes said, "so it was a good meet."

Senior Kody Borg led the team placing third at the meet with a time of 18:05 and senior Karl Magnuson placed ninth with a time of 18:10.

Junior Daniel Bookless placed 13th with a time of 18:55 and junior Robert Jost placed 18th with a time of 19:17.

All runners received medals.

Clint Schneider had a time of 23:58.

Also, receiving medals were sophomores Sean Leihy who placed fifth with a time of 17:53 and Nate Holmes who placed 16th with a time of 19:11.

Zach Magnuson had a time of 22:3; Zach Luthi, 25:58; Jon Janzen, 22:02; and Tyrel Blecha, 24:58.

Freshman Cody McMillen placed sixth with a time of 18:54 and received a medal.

Other freshmen competing were Alex Jost with a time of 23:53; Lance Kliewer, 25:40; and Gavin Serene, 23:52.

On the girls' side, junior Greta Kliewer place 46th with a time of 15:50. Jacque Fisher had a time of 16:12.

Sophomores Hannah Marsh placed 35th with a time of 15:01, and sophomore Elissa Richert placed 37th with a time of 15:11.

Freshman Megan McCarty had a time of 19:50 and freshman Megan Peachey had a time of 17:25.

"The athletes should feel good about the hard work that they've put into improving," Coach Holmes said. "The training is paying off."

The team will run at 3:30 p.m. today at the Leon/Bluestem meet.
