HHS JV snaps two-game losing streak

After two near-misses, the Trojan junior varsity football team finally got the game it's been striving for Oct. 10 in Hillsboro against Nickerson.

The Trojans (3-3) put together a balanced offensive attack with a season-high 279 yards to wallop the Panthers, 38-6.

"The guys put together one of their best overall performances of the season," said Trojan coach Scott O'Hare. "The offense executed very well, both in the running and passing game and a number of the guys stepped up with nice performances."

Jacob Yoder had 130 yards of all-purpose offense and a pair of touchdowns, catching a team-high four passes for a game-high 108 yards.

Yoder's first touchdown came in the first quarter, catching a 27-yard dart from Daniel Jost.

Jost then hit Brett McIntosh on the two-point conversion to start what would prove to be a long, miserable night for the Panthers.

Jost had a hand in all five of Hillsboro's touchdowns, picking off a pass and taking it 34 yards to put Hillsboro up, 14-0. Jost then hit Grant Schneider on the two-point conversion to make the score 16-0, closing out the first quarter.

Jost finished the game carrying the ball seven times for a team-high 71 yards and two touchdowns while completing six of 10 passes for 153 yards and two more scores.

Nickerson sliced the lead to 16-6 by halftime, but never jeopardized the Trojan lead.

The same duo of Jost and Yoder wreaked havoc on the Panthers the third quarter with Jost scoring on a one-yard keeper to push the lead to 24-6.

Jost then hit Yoder for a 60-yard bomb to make it a 32-6 game heading into the final 12:00.

Then Jost broke away for a 32-yard run which made for the 38-6 final.

The Trojan defense yielded 202 yards to the Panthers, but forced three picks and a fumble.

Jost followed up his stellar offensive game with three solo tackles and two assisted to go along with his interception.

Mitchell Koop and Dustin Strunk each had picks in the debacle and Tyler Suderman also had three solo tackles and was in on five more.

Jon Crouse had a solo tackle and seven assisted and Toby Jones had one solo and four assisted.

The Trojans traveled Monday to Hesston before closing out the season at home at 6 p.m. Monday against Marion.
