HHS Scholars' Bowl team improves

The Hillsboro High scholars' bowl team participated in three meets in November, winning one contest, and losing two against brainy opponents.

In the first meet, held at Collegiate, the team consisted of Ben Bosworth, Daniel Berg, Mathew Brown, Sam Bookless, and Cody Blackketter.

"We finished the day 2-3 against some tough competition which included large schools in Wichita, so it was a good start," said coach Stuart Holmes.

In Hesston, the team composed of Blackketter, Bookless, and David Winter went 2-3.

"With all our team today being underclassmen, the guys did well to win two matches," said coach Holmes.

At the third meet in Sterling, with 18 teams competing, team members Brown, Peter Bartel, Bosworth, and Bookless went 3-2.

"The guys had a very competitive day, the team was a question or two vs. Otis-Bison from going 4-1 on the day. That would have given us the possibility of being the wild card team that made the semifinals," said coach Holmes.

"The guys did a good job of being aggressive and buzzing in when they knew the answer, as well as taking the time to communicate when the other team had buzzed in first and missed. Both of these skills, along with a good knowledge base, led to a good day."
