HHS volleyball team goes 0-2 at Collegiate
Hillsboro High School volleyball team picked up two losses Tuesday Night at Wichita Collegiate, 11-25, 14-25 and 11-25, 25-22, 19-25.
In the first match, the Trojans' timid play kept them on the defensive for most of the match.
"We tiptoed around too much in this match — not pounding the ball enough," said head coach Sandy Arnold. "We played too passively."
Senior Emily Ratzlaff was 9-9 in digs, 4-6 in attacks with two kills, and 6-6 serving. Junior Tiffany Knaak was 6-8 in digs and 7-10 in serve receive. Sophomore JuliAnne Chisholm was 8-10 in digs, 7-11 in attacks with one kill, and 6-11 in serve receive.
In the second match, Hillsboro picked up its intensity and played more aggressively at the net. The Trojans' blocking also improved, allowing them to score some points and rattle Collegiate which helped take the match to three games.
"We proved we could pull ourselves out of a hole and win," Arnold said. "We were in the third game also, but missed too many serves at crucial times."
Ratzlaff was 15-16 in digs, 7-13 in attacks with two kills, and 8-11 in serve receives. Chisholm was 8-11 in blocks with three aces, 7-9 in digs, 13-18 in attacks with six kills, 13-13 in dinks with three kills. Sophomore Tina Frick had four ace blocks and was 7-8 in dinks with two kills.
Senior Katie Baltzer was 6-8 in digs and 6-10 serve receives. Knaak was 9-9 in serves with one ace and 9-11 in serve receive. Whisenhunt was 7-7 in attacks with three kills.
The Trojans are on the road again Tuesday at Hesston. They are at home Sept. 28 against Smoky Valley for the third of five home appearances including two tournaments. Game time is 5 p.m.
