HHS wrestlers lose dual at Counci Grove
Staff writer
The Hillsboro High School wrestlers competed last Thursday in a dual meet against Eureka and Council Grove at Council Grove.
Hillsboro lost 54-25 against Eureka.
"They had a full team, and we knew we would have to give up 18 points because of the empty spots," coach Corey Burton said. "But we won five and lost four on the mat facing some tough competition."
"Two guys, Ryan Janzen and Billy Winegarner, picked up some wins against kids that had beat them earlier," Burton said.
"James Bina also had a good match and pinned the kid from Eureka."
In the match against Council Grove, Hillsboro lost 41-36.
"Here again, the forfeits hurt us whenever we wrestle full teams," Burton said. "We were happy because the guys wrestled pretty well. We were six to three on the mat, so they did a good job individually."
Up next for the team will be the Southeast of Saline team dual tournament at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Schools competing in the tournament will be Hillsboro, Remington, Marion, Southeast of Saline, St. John's Military, and Hill City.
"We will wrestle five duals," Burton said. "The team winning the most duals will win first place.
"I don't know how we will fall," he said. "We aren't sure how the other teams are."
