Hill-Topics: Found: plate, mistakes, and a cool melodrama
Thanks to the Good Samaritan who found my license plate on the highway near Florence and turned it in to police. It must have fallen off my car.
Law enforcement officials had already canceled the missing plate, so I'll use the replacement I bought.
I might put the old tag up on my wall to remind me how great it is to live in Marion County, instead of someplace where missing tags are stolen to be used on getaway cars.

You meet the nicest people by accident, and, sometimes, by mistake.
Hulda Loewen came to the Hillsboro Star-Journal this past week to let me know I had confused her with her sister, Martha, throughout my story on the German/Low German Folk Festival, and in the caption under their photo.
Considering I was directly responsible for adding 10 years her life, Hulda pointed out my mistake in a most considerate manner.

Safe water is something just about everybody takes for granted, except for the men and women who think about it day and night.
Today's article about the men and women who work at the Hillsboro water treatment plant, which recently was struck by lightning, reminds us that safe drinking water, and the people who keep it safe, shouldn't be taken for granted.

Applause! Applause!
A rousing curtain call for the young actors and actresses of the Hillsboro drama camp, who presented "The Saga of Sagebrush Sal" at the high school auditorium last Friday evening.
The cast wasn't distracted by my flashing camera when I photographed dress rehearsal Friday afternoon, and were super eager to cooperate.
Credit for teaching them the art of stage craft, and how to follow directions, goes to directors Lynn Just and Terry Bebermeyer.
