Hillsboro actors receive Jester Awards nominations
On the Broadway stage, the top prize is a Tony Award, but on the biggest winners from the local high school stage win Jester Awards from Music Theatre of Wichita.
So, take a bow, Hillsboro High!
Here's a well-deserved curtain call for the actors, actresses, and the director at the high school, who've been nominated for High School Musical Theatre Awards, based on their performances in last fall's musical, "Shenandoah!"
According to a release from the Music Theatre of Wichita, "the Jester Award program recognizes the extraordinary amount of work, creativity, and devotion that faculty and students pour into their high school theatrical productions."
Hillsboro's performances were judged against high schools from Wichita, Andover, McPherson, Mulvane, and Haysville.
Audrey Weinbrenner was nominated as the Outstanding Leading Female Performer; and Darren Enns as the Outstanding Leading Male Performer.
Weinbrenner, Adam Dirks, Alex Jost, Aaron Stepanek, Tyler Suderman, and David Vogel were nominated for the Outstanding Production Number for their performance of "Next to Lovin'." And, the entire cast earned a nomination in the Outstanding Overall Production category.
Hillsboro also was nominated for Outstanding Graphic Design/Playbill, and Outstanding Direction.
Weinbrenner and Enns will perform solos, and the "Next to Lovin"' ensemble will present their number at the Jester Awards ceremony, at 7 p.m. May 26 at Century II in Wichita.
Director Lynn Just said, "It's huge that we have been nominated in so many major areas as a small school, compared to many of the other schools in each category."
