HILLSBORO: Bina finishes fifth at home golf invite
Andrew Bina shot the third-best score out of a field of 60 players during Friday's Hillsboro Invitational Golf Tournament.
On his home course, Bina claimed a fifth-place medal by shootomg 78, just three under the top score of 75. Bina's score tied with Jordan Lee of St. John's Military Academy.
Marion's Nickolas Hett shot the second-best score of the day with 76. The top players, with scores of 75, were Justin Ahlers of Benington and Kris Rainsberger of St. John's.
Billy Winegarner also took home a medal by finishing ninth out of the top 10. He shot an 83.
Taking first place was Hillsboro's four-man squad, with a score of 333. The group included Bina, Winegarner, Lance Bartel, and Randy Klassen. Bartel shot an 87, and Klassen shot an 85.
The Trojans took ninth in the two-man division and fourth in the six-man division with scores of 198 and 531, respectively. Derek Hamm and Jordan Allen rounded out the team by scoring 99 each.
Herington
In their first meet of the season, the Trojans failed to place at the Herington Invitational. Players from Herington, Burrton, Chase County, Council Grove, Goessel, Herington, Marion, Sedgwick, Southeast of Saline, Wichita Trinity, and Inman attended the event.
Randy Klassen shot the Trojans' lowest score of the day, with an 87. Andrew Bina, Billy Winegarner, and Lance Bartel each shot 93. Derek Hamm shot 100, and Jordan Allen shot 107. That gave Hillsboro 366 in the four-man competition, 207 in the two-man competition, and a total of 573 in six-man competition.
Burrton's Nathan Ratzlaff took the first-place medal with a 74 score. Coming in second and third place, with scores of 77 each, were Trent Siegle and Matt Weinman, both of Council Grove.
Council Grove took first place in the six-man and four-man competitions, but Marion captured first place in the two-man division with 165.
Hillsboro's next varsity meet is May 2 against Sacred Heart in Salina. The junior varsity players will compete Tuesday in Marion, April 24 in Hesston, and May 2 at home.
