Hillsboro celebrates with lighting ceremony

Hundreds filled the streets Thursday night for the inaugural lighting ceremony that took place at the newly renovated four-way stop at Main and Grand streets.

The event, sponsored by the city of Hillsboro, began at 6:30 p.m. and was the city's official dedication of the refurbished road ways completed a couple of weeks ago. The cost of the project was over $800,000, and was finished last week.

With temperatures in the mid 70s, residents of Hillsboro, friends, and spectators filed into the intersection for the event.

The downtown lights were turned on around 8:15 p.m. and were welcomed with a round of applause from the crowd on hand.

Spectators enjoyed complimentary hot dogs and soda, live music from the Hillsboro Community Band, the Chniggle-Fritz polka band, prize drawings, and late-evening shopping at local businesses.
