Hillsboro FFA attends state convention

Hillsboro FFA members attended the state convention May 28-30 at Manhattan.

Those attending included Alex Jost, David Winter, Andy Klassen, Briana Loewen, Ethan Frantz, Jacob Fish, John Hein, Brea Allen, Neal Kaiser, and sponsor Sonya Roberts.

They attended convention sessions and heard speeches from Seth Heinert, past national officer; Morgan Parker and Becky Sullivan, current national FFA officers; Shawn Harper, former NFL player; and Justin McKee, PBR Rodeo announcer. They also heard retiring addresses from the current state officer team.

Chapter members were recognized for their achievements throughout the year.

The Environthon team of Alex Jost, Andy Klassen, and Jacob Fish placed first in the state event. They will represent Kansas at the national convention in October at Indianapolis, Ind. Other team members were Ty Goossen and Zach Jost. They were unable to attend the convention.

The chapter placed in the silver division in the national chapter competition in the areas of student, chapter, and community development.

The chapter scrapbook placed fourth. Heather Goldsby and Meika Serene were in charge of compiling the scrapbook.

Alex Jost received the state FFA degree, the highest degree the state association can bestow upon members. His parents, Keith and Cheryl Jost and sister, Meghan Jost were in attendance. Alex also received an Orschlein scholarship in the amount of $1,000. He also was a state officer candidate.

The chapter will attend the state conference for chapter leaders in July at Rock Springs Ranch.
