Hillsboro, Goessel schools plan Sept. 11 ceremonies years ago

Hillsboro Elementary School students and staff will observe Sept. 11 with a "Heroes Day." Students will listen to a talk from USD 410 Superintendent Gordon Mohn and elementary principal Dr. Pat Call. The program will last 15 minutes.

From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., there will be "Lunch with Heroes." The circle drive will be blocked off, and students will have hero sandwiches and fixings with firefighters, police officers and military personnel from the community.

The students and staff are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue that day. A red, white, and blue chain of hands will be on display in the gym.

Goessel High School and Junior High School will hold a special ceremony at 8 a.m. on Sept. 11 on the front lawn of the school to commemorate the events of last Sept. 11. The high school band will perform. Also, the local fire, police and EMT personnel will be present and honored for their service. The program is expected to last 20 to 30 minutes. The public is invited.

Goessel Elementary will hold a similar ceremony at 9 a.m.
