Hillsboro golf course hosts weekend tournament

The Four Person Scramble Golf Tournament was held at the Hillsboro Municipal Golf Course Saturday, July 9. In the championship flight, first place went to Brad Sherard of Wichita, Trent Ash of Newton, Dick Edward and Bill Kliewer, both of Wichita, with a score of 57. Second place with a scorecard playoff of 59 went to the Hillsboro team of Anthony Thiessen, Phillip Thiessen, Scott O'Hare, and Andy Friesen. Carl Long, Gary Andrews, Roger Fleming, all of Hillsboro, teamed with Dave Watson of Marion to place third with a score of 59.

In the first flight, Mike Padgett of Hillsboro and Scott Sader, Mike Kohman, and Dave Mayfield, all of El Dorado, took first place with a score of 62 SCPO. Harold Schultz of Hillsboro, Scott Schultz of Lehigh, Joe Phillips of El Dorado, and Donavan of El Dorado placed second with a score of 62 SCPO. In third place with a score of 62 was the Peabody team of Brice Foth, Corey Foth, Travis Foth, and Jerry Foth.

The second flight was won by Steve Vogts, Charlie Wedel, Steve Jonas, and Harold Curl, all of Canton. Their winning score was 65 SCPO. In second place was the Council Grove team of Matt Weinman, Casey Horton, Cody Catlin, and Dane Brummett with a score of 65 SCPO. Rich Nickel, Jerold Vogt, Mike Ryan, and John Knaak, all of Hillsboro, won third place with a score of 65.

The longest putt award went to Phillip Thiessen of Hillsboro. Chris Swift of Emporia won the longest drive. The straightest drive went to Jack Shipman of Burns, and the closest to pin went to Monty Fry of Newton.
