Hillsboro golfer medals at women's invite

Forty golfers were on hand June 27 for the Hillsboro Women's Invitational Nine-hole Golf Tournament, held at the municipal golf course.

Pat Bartel of Hillsboro took the day's top honors, shooting 39 to become the medalist.

In the first flight division, Jenny Gihring of Newton shot 44 to take first place. Vivial Talbott of Halstead came in second with 44, and Rita Brennan of Hillsboro came in third with 45.

In second flight, Newton's Bonnie Schrag took first with 50. Patty Getz, Newton, came in second with 50, and Marguerite Westrup of Lyons grabbed third with 52.

The third flight division found first-place honors going to Doris Arnold of Hillsboro, who shot 57. Edna Whitehair of Chapman took second with 61, and Georgetta Hall of Wichita took third with 61.

Finally, in fourth flight, Marge Friesen of Newton took first with 57, Eunice Thom of El Dorado took second with 58, and Betty Ann Wilson of Lyons took third with 59.

For the special awards, Hillsboro's Raye Dirks hit closest to the pin on hole six, Newton's Juell Hartman hit the straightest drive on eight, and Hillsboro's Marcella Mohn hit the longest put on hole nine.
