Hillsboro High School adds Major to math
Staff writer
One of four new teachers at USD 410 this year is Bruce Major. He comes to Hillsboro from Salina where he taught for two years. Major also has taught at Southeast of Saline, Sacred Heart, Guam, and the Honduras.
His experience not only covers math subjects from remedial to college level; he's also been a band director and coach.
Major decided to move away from band and coaching because of the time it takes away from his family.
Major and his wife, Sara, have two children, Charlie is two and Grace is four. The family is buying a house on A Street by the high school, and plans to move the end of September.
The family is happy about the move to Hillsboro.
"We've heard good things about the community," said Major. "We're very pleased and impressed. We've spent some time here, and we like what we've seen. Everyone has been so welcoming."
Major and his wife already have friends here. He went to college with Terry Prichard at Kansas State University, Manhattan, and says they have kept in touch. Sara is friends with the wife of TEEN's new director, Chris Moddelmog.
"It was an added benefit, said Major.
Major plans to put photos in his classroom of his many world travels. He hopes to get students asking questions to learn more about the world.
He's heard good things about students at Hillsboro, and is glad for the opportunity to teach here.
