HILLSBORO HIGH SCHOOL: Lady Trojans bow out at sub-state
The Lady Trojans' basketball season ended Monday night, as the Hillsboro girls lost to Lyons 42-35 in the first round of substate.
Lyons was seeded second in the seven-team tournament, and Hillsboro was seeded sixth.
Other teams in the sub-state bracket included Southeast of Saline, Ellinwood, Ellsworth, Marion, and Hesston — the host of the rest of the tournament.
Poor shooting by the Trojans contributed to the loss. The girls shot just 35 percent from the floor, although they did hit four of eight three-point shots. They shot 79 percent from the foul line.
Emily Ratzlaff was the team's leading scorer with 10. She also grabbed five rebounds, dished out three assists, and had one steal.
Charity Davis also delivered a solid night, with eight rebounds, five points, four steals, and two assists.
The Lady Trojans end their season with an overall record of 8-13. They went 4-9 in the MCAA.
Hillsboro graduates just one senior, April Funk. Funk averaged 9.6 points a game this year.
