HILLSBORO HIGH SCHOOL: Lady Trojans fall to Haven
The Hillsboro girls' basketball team failed to end the regular season on a high note, losing to Haven 41-28 at home on Tuesday night.
Haven outscored the Lady Trojans in every quarter. They led 9-7 at the end of the first period and took a 22-17 lead into halftime.
The third quarter saw an offensive freeze for both teams, with Hillsboro scoring just four and Haven with only eight. But the Trojans weren't able to thaw enough in the fourth quarter to overcome their deficit and ultimately lost 41-28.
Katie Fast was the team's leading scorer on the night, with 11 points and 11 rebounds, earning her a double-double. Emily Ratzlaff added nine, and April Funk had five.
The team now heads to sub-state action, which begins Monday and will be held in Hesston, with first-round games taking place on the highest seed's home court. The sub-state includes Ellinwood, Ellsworth, Southeast of Saline, Marion, and Lyons. SES is seeded first.
Hillsboro is seeded sixth in the bracket and will face third-seeded Lyons on Monday night in Lyons. Game time is 7 p.m.
Collegiate
Last Friday's away game against Wichita Collegiate was a low-scoring battle for both teams. But Hillsboro made just 32 percent of its free throws and one of seven from beyond the arc, leading them to a 35-25 loss.
Amy Duerksen was the team's leading scorer with 11 points. She also had five rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
