During the past several weeks, residents at Hillsboro Long-Term Care Unit have been busy with summer activities.
A men's barbecue was held June 14 in recognition of Father's Day. The men enjoyed barbecued hamburgers and sausage sandwiches, pasta salad, potato chips, ranch beans, and Florida orange cake.
A "manly" competition was held June 16 that involved throwing a football through a hoop, nail driving, and fishing. Ernie Unruh won the competition, Leland Kaiser came in second, and John Rempel third.
The women worked on two different kinds of pins. Several of the women made flag pins to wear on Flag Day. Ladies Red Hat Society made red hat pins and bracelets on June 15.
Women also have been busy making salads for noon salad bars. Last week they made a pea and corn salad, and this week a lettuce salad with peas, fresh tomatoes, and onions.
Some residents enjoyed a van ride June 20 to Marion County Lake. The other residents who stayed behind watched a travel movie and enjoyed a glass of raspberry tea. Residents also enjoyed an evening ride to see how harvest was coming along.
Hillsboro United Methodist Church led the service June 11. Leora Grunau provided music June 18, and Zion Lutheran Church was in charge of the worship service on Sunday.
