Hillsboro man jailed on battery, burglary charges
A Hillsboro man is in the Marion County jail after he allegedly burglarized his ex-wife's home and threatened her Sunday morning.
Robert Gustafson is being held in the county jail on $2,500 bond after the Sunday morning incident, which took place at the home of his ex-wife, Debby Gustafson, in rural Hillsboro.
According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Robert arrived at Debby's residence, 541 180th, when no one was home. He broke into the house with the legs of a stool that was sitting on the front porch.
When Debby arrived home around 11 a.m., she saw Robert's vehicle outside the home but didn't see him. But when she went into the house he confronted her and made advances toward her, which she refused. Debby dialed 911, then armed herself with a baseball bat and headed outside, according to Sheriff Lee Becker
Debby was "holding him at bay" with the baseball bat when sheriff's deputies arrived, Becker said.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the county jail, where he remained Monday afternoon. He will be charged with burglary, battery, criminal damage, and criminal trespass. Burglary is always a felony, but the other charges will probably be misdemeanors, Becker said.
Robert Gustafson may have been acting under the influence of drugs or narcotics, according to the sheriff's report.
Also at the scene was witness Kimberly Albertson, also of Hillsboro. No one was injured.
