Hillsboro MB Church selects building site

The membership of Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church voted Sunday to rebuild in one of two locations in Prairie Pointe. One site is between C and A streets, the other between C and D streets. The planning committee will present its recommendation to the church members within a month. Then there will be another vote.

"It was an emotional decision," said Pastor Bruce Porter. "The members of the church have a long history in this community. As a church we need to discern the direction God is leading us."

The only difference in the two sites at Prairie Pointe is location. One is closer to town; one is further away. Both sites are owned by Dorothy Soldan.

"Both sites are pretty much the same," said Darrel Driggers, member of the planning committee. "They both have advantages and disadvantages."

After the exact site is determined by a vote of the membership of the church, the church will probably purchase six to eight acres of land. That will give the church enough room to spread out. Although plans are not definite, it is likely the new church building will be a one-story facility.

According to Porter, the site and design of the facility should reflect how the church can best serve the community with outreach and accessibility. He also stated that the cost might be a determining factor.

The planning committee hopes all of the decisions will be made for a groundbreaking in early fall.

"Once we agree on a building site and a building and if the weather cooperates, we hope to begin building in early fall," said Porter.
