Hillsboro native and wife earn Harvard doctorates
A Hillsboro native and his wife recently received doctorate degrees from Harvard University.
Jalane D. Schmidt and Greg Schmidt Goering were honored June 8 in Cambridge, Mass.
Schmidt earned her Ph.D. in the Study of Religion, while Goering was awarded a Th.D. in Hebrew Bible.
They live in Carrboro, N.C., and have two children, Mercedes, 3, and Inéz, 1.
Both hold masters of divinity degrees from Harvard Divinity School and bachelors degrees from Bethel College, Newton.
Schmidt is the daughter of Wanda Ream Schmidt and the Rev. Steve Schmidt, of La Junta, Colo., and the granddaughter of Ethel and Roland Schmidt, of Newton.
Goering, a 1984 graduate of Hillsboro High School, is the son of Judith and Lowell Goering of Hillsboro.
Schmidt is on a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where Goering lectures on the Old Testament.
