HILLSBORO: Netters claim second at Circle
Hillsboro fell just two points short of first place Thursday as they took second at the varsity tennis tournament at Circle High School.
No. 1 singles player Brandon Ratzlaff took first place in his bracket. The No. 1 doubles team of Caleb Dirks and Florin Nae took second place, and the No. 2 doubles team of Wade Kimbrel and Macy Fadenrecht took third.
The schools competing at the meet were Circle, Haven, Nickerson, and Valley Center.
Ratzlaff swept all four matches for the tournament, defeating Circle 8-2, Haven 8-2, and Nickerson 8-1. He defeated Valley Center by a 4-0 forfeit.
The duo of Dirks and Nae defeated Haven 8-3, Nickerson 8-1, and Valley Center 8-7, 7-3. They lost to Circle 8-6.
Hillsboro's No. 2 singles player, Kyle Kroeker, started the day by downing Nickerson 8-5 but dropped the next three to Circle (8-3), Valley Center (8-1), and Haven (8-1).
The No. 2 doubles duo of Kimbrel and Fadenrecht won against Haven and Nickerson but lost to Valley Center and Circle.
The Trojans travel to Hesston on Tuesday.
