Hillsboro parent picks Prairie View therapist to win Kansas Oscar

Grateful for the help she received for her daughter, Traci Anderson of Hillsboro nominated Cheri Ochs-Wheeler to win an award for her work as a therapist.

And she won.

Ochs-Wheeler, a therapist with Marion Prairie View, was awarded a "Kansas Oscars" June 24 by Keys for Networking, Inc., at Red Rock Guest Ranch, Soldier.

Ten state nominees were showcased who demonstrated outstanding work with families of children with serious emotional disturbances.

The ceremony recognized those professionals and the families who nominated them with dinner, an awards ceremony, and live entertainment.

The award was presented to Ochs-Wheeler of Marion because she helped resolve conflicts, develop strengths, and solved difficult issues in a family's life, according to Anderson, who nominated her for the award.

"Cheri has gone above and beyond in helping our family not only in therapy but also tirelessly working to educate school teachers and administrators about our daughter's disorder," Anderson said.

"Cheri always has time to make our family feel valued and heard."
