Staff writer

Among the many events at the Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale and Auction in Hutchinson Saturday was the quilt auction. The 12 quilts made, quilted or donated by Hillsboro individuals and groups raised more than $7,000 for the relief organization.

One of the quilts, Boston Flower Basket, sold for $2,000. The beige and green quilt was pieced, appliquéd and quilted. Grace Brandt of Hillsboro made the quilt, and the Mary-Martha Circle, Eden Mennonite of Moundridge, quilted it.

The highest selling quilt, a 9-Patch Trip Around the World, brought in $6,300. The quilt auction raised $110,000 for the MCC.

Another noted auction item, the Model T pickup, sold in the general auction for $23,000. The general auction made approximately $60,000 this year, which was an increase of about $20,000 from last year.

Overall, the sale raised an estimated $386,000.
