Hillsboro sweeps Peabody twice in season opener
The Hillsboro American Legion Post #366 baseball team started its season with a home doubleheader sweep of Peabody, 20-3, and 14-6.
In the first game, Adam Scheele pitching a complete game, allowing only three hits, led Hillsboro.
On the offensive side, Hillsboro scored six runs in the first inning and went on to score in every inning thereafter. Chad Hughbanks had three hits to lead the 12-hit attack.
In the second game, Hillsboro scored seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings in a 14-6 victory. Chad Hughbanks had three hits and Scheele hit a monster three-run home run in the fifth to lead the team. Travis Riesen pitched a complete game for the winners, striking out 14 Peabody batters.
Hillsboro Post #366 goes on the road today to Peabody, and Thursday to Hesston. The next home game is Tuesday against Lyons.
