HILLSBORO: Tennis squad hosts MCAA event
The Trojans also hosted the MCAA league meet Friday.
Hillsboro took fifth place overall among a field of eight teams. Smoky Valley and Wichita Collegiate tied for first.
In No. 1 singles, Hillsboro's Brandon Ratzlaff advanced into the second round by defeating Halstead's Brian Ayres. Ratzlaff then jumped into the championship game by defeating Smoky Valley's Noah Lindfors. But in the title match, Ratzlaff fell to Ellsworth's Troy Read.
No. 2 singles found Hillsboro's Caleb Dirks winning the first round by defeating Smoky Valley's Tony Bargen. Dirks. Dirks then advanced to the title game by downing Hesston's Michael Holle, but he couldn't claim the championship game and lost to Collegiate player Bo Dunne.
After strong performances in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles brackets, Hillsboro's doubles teams didn't fare as well.
In No. 1 doubles, the duo of Tyler Weinbrenner and Florin Nae lost in their opening game to Hesston and then fell to Haven.
In No. 2 doubles, the team of Kyle Kroeker and Macy Fadenrecht lost to Hesston and Haven in the first and second rounds.
