The Hillsboro High School boys came away with another first place plaque at the Smoky Valley Invitational held last Thursday. They placed first in both the 4x100 and the 4x400 meter relays and scored first in three other individual events.
The Hillsboro girls did not fair as well scoring only 30 points and placing fifth.
"This invitational was very competitive," head coach Dennis Boldt said.
Eleven schools competing at the invitational including Hillsboro, Marion, Canton-Galva, Concordia, Ellsworth, Minneapolis, Riley County, Sacred Heart, Smoky Valley, Southeast of Saline, and Thomas Moore Prep.
According to Boldt, the boys did not have their best day, but still managed to score well. He felt the relays were emerging with some of the best times in the area.
Individually, Boldt highlighted senior Alan Yoder for winning the 100-meter and finishing second in the long jump. Aaron Yoder finished first in the 800 and the 1600 meter runs.
Boldt also noted that Tyler Peachey had his personal best in the discus with a throw of 104 feet nine inches; Kyle Jilka threw the javelin 138 feet 10 inches, one of his personal bests; and Kody Borg ran a 2:08 split in the 4x800 meter relay and shaved off 20 seconds in his 3200 meter run.
"In a large invitational such as the Smoky Valley one, many personal performances do not get recognized in the final results, but the coaching staff is excited about all of the efforts," Boldt said.
In the girls' division, Boldt said, "The girls did a great job in their individual events
