The Hillsboro Trojans wrestlers had a busy weekend competing Friday and Saturday at the Halstead Invitational wrestling tournament in Halstead.

With only six wrestlers competing, the team placed eleventh among the 21 teams participating in the tournament.

Douglass won first place scoring 203.5 as a team. Hillsboro scored 67.5 points.

"Our kids wrestled well," coach Corey Burton said. "I think this meet was as tough as it's ever been — and that was good for us."

Burton said his wrestlers won a few tough matches in overtime which he says will help them be prepared with what's down the road.

Senior James Bina took third in the 160-pound weight class.

"James' only loss was in overtime," Burton said. "Pound for pound, 160 is the toughest weight class."

Also placing at Halstead were juniors, Ryan Janzen and Tim Glahn who placed fourth and junior Danny Yoder placed fifth, in their respective weight classes.

Senior wrestler Billy Winegarner, and freshman Andrew Bina did not place at the tournament.

Looking down the road, Hillsboro will compete at 5:30 p.m. tonight in a dual against Lyons and Lincoln at Lyons.

"Lincoln is a full team and a tough and solid team," Burton said.

"Lyons is a young team, and the numbers are the same as ours," he said.

"This is our last league dual, and we'd like to win it and be 4-0 in the league."

The team will also compete on Saturday at the Eureka tournament in Eureka. The meet starts at 9 a.m.

Burton said this is another tough tournament for the team.

"But the problem in the past has been is that we did not have those tough matches early in the year, so we weren't quite ready for those tough matches at state," he said. "But this year these tough matches will help get us prepared for what we will face at state."
