Historical Society to hold spring home tour

The Hillsboro Historical Society and Museum Board is sponsoring its first Spring Historic Home Tour on Sunday, May 4, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Four homes in Hillsboro, each built in the early 1900s, will be featured on the tour. Peggy Goertzen, local historian and long-time board member, is piecing together stories about the houses. She has interviewed the current homeowners and is researching additional history.

"I see this as a way of valuing and honoring our local history and the people who committed themselves to living here," Goertzen said.

Amy Jordan, a graphic design major at Tabor College, is drawing sketches of each house, which will be included in a brochure that will be distributed on the tour.

The tour will include the following houses: Benjaimin Bekker house, also known as Carousel Bed & Breakfast, at 312 E. A St., home of Betty Price; Peter W. Funk house at 310 S. Main, home of Mildred Harding; C. N. Hiebert house at 214 S. Adams, home of Rob & Theresa Freeman; and the William F. Schaeffler house at 312 E. Grand. Refreshments will be served at the Schaeffler House.

Cost is a $5 donation per person. The public is welcome. For more information, call 947-3691.
