HMS boys end season with a win

Hillsboro Middle School eighth grade football team defeated Wichita Collegiate Thursday, 12-8.

Quarterback Daniel Jost scored on a 28-yard run in the first quarter but the extra point attempt failed. Collegiate scored on an 11-yard run in the third quarter and scored the two-point conversion. Hillsboro scored again in the fourth quarter on a 17-yard pass from Jost to Isaac Leihy. The PAT was no good.

Offensively, Leihy was 16-54 in rushing and 2-25 in receptions with one touchdown; Matthew Klenda, 1-3 rushing and 1-25 receiving; and Jost, 7-88 rushing and one touchdown. Jost was 3-14-50 in passing with one touchdown.

Defensively, Jost had nine tackles and Brandon Brown, 9.5 tackles.

The seventh grade team tied with Collegiate, 8-8.

Nathan Vogel scored on a 22-yard run and the PAT for the Trojans.

Offensively, Vogel was 18-91 in rushing and 1-14 in receiving; Christopher Couts was 4-13, rushing and 2-5 receiving; and Jacob Edwards, 1-1 rushing.

Quarterback Tyler Ediger was 1-3-20 yards passing.

Defensively, Couts had six tackles; Vogel, 6.5 tackles; and Elias Krause, 7.5 tackles.

The eighth grade team ended its season 4-3 and the seventh grade team was 2-3-2.
