HMS boys play Hesston
The Hillsboro Middle School boys' eighth grade basketball team, seeded third, is scheduled to play against No. 2 seed Hesston at 6 p.m. today in the second round of the 2004 MCAA-ML tournament. The teams will play at the HMS gymnasium in Hillsboro.
On Jan. 29, the team lost at home against Ellinwood, 41-30.
Leading scorer for the team was Gavin Serene with 13 points followed by Jacob Yoder with seven and Grant Schneider with six.
Other scorers were Mitchell Koop and Daniel Roble with two each.
The team record is now 4-6.
Seventh grade
The seventh grade boys, playing their final game of the season, defeated Ellinwood, 57-18, at home.
Scoring a game high 18 points was Daniel Jost.
Other scorers were Thad Holmes with nine points, Elliot Soyez and Clay Shewey with six each, Landon Unruh and Andy Klassen with five each, William Munguya with four, and Isaac Leihy and Bradley Klenda with two each.
The team competed Jan. 24 at the seventh grade Hesston tournament. Hillsboro lost the first game against Smoky Valley, 46-31.
Scoring for the Trojans were Shewey with 11 points followed by Soyez with nine and Jost with five.
Other scorers were Holmes, Leihy, and Unruh with two points each.
In the second game, Hillsboro was defeated by Hesston 37-26.
Scorers were Soyez with seven, Jost and Unruh with six each, Shewey with five, and Holmes with two.
C-team
The HMS C-team ended its season in a close one at Ellinwood, 12-11.
Scoring for the team were Nolan Dirks with three, Nicholas Mueller, Justin Wodke, Matthew Klenda, and John Hein with two each.
