HMS football team rolls over Ellinwood
The Hillsboro Middle School eighth grade football team defeated the Ellinwood Eagles 42-6 last Thursday at home.
Because Ellinwood did not have enough players, the seventh grade team did not play. The seventh grade team will play Marion at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 to make up for the Ellinwood game.
The Hillsboro attack was on the ground, rushing for 219 yards in 23 carries.
In the first quarter, Austin Hamm scored a touchdown on a six-yard run with Jacob Yoder running in the two-point conversion.
Dustin Strunk scored on a 38-yard run, but the two-point conversion run failed.
Hamm punched one in the end zone on a 44-yard run, and Yoder ran in for the two-point conversion.
Yoder scored on a 66-yard punt return. The extra point pass attempt failed.
The score at the half was 28-0.
In the third quarter, Strunk connected an 18-yard pass to Grant Schneider. The extra point run attempt failed.
Yoder again scored on a six-yard run and ran in for the two-point conversion.
Ellinwood managed to score in the fourth quarter on a 45-yard run, but the extra point run attempt failed.
On the defensive end, Hillsboro forced eight interceptions, and held the Eagles to 97 total rushing yards. Michael Scheele led the team in tackles with five solos and two assists.
