HMS football team routes Halstead

The Hillsboro Middle School football team defeated Halstead last Thursday in Halstead, 26-0.

Because of the rain, head coach Darrel Knoll said there were no accurate stats.

Austin Hamm scored all the teams touchdowns.

"He had a great game," Knoll said. "He made people miss him all night, and at times, he just ran over the Halstead defenders, especially if we needed a yard or two."

At half-time the score was 20-0, Hillsboro.

"Offensively, we moved the ball extremely well all night," Knoll said.

Knoll said that several Hillsboro touchdowns were called back because of penalties.

"The line did a great job of blocking," he said.

Leading tacklers for the Trojans were Daniel Roble and Hamm with two solos and four assists each.

The team's record is 3-2.

The seventh grade team traveled to Marion on Monday and defeated the Warriors 44-0.

At press time no stats were available.

Last Thursday, the team lost to Halstead, 20-12.

In rushing, the team had 25 carries for 73 yards.

In passing, they completed six of 14 for 158 yards with two touchdowns. Halstead made two interceptions on the Trojans.

In the first quarter, Halstead scored on a 47-yard run with the PAT run good. Then Halstead scored again on a 55-yard run with a PAT run that failed.

In the second quarter, Hillsboro scored on a Daniel Jost pass to Landon Unruh for 55 yards with the PAT pass that failed.

Halstead then scored on a 55-yard fumble return with a PAT run that failed.

At the half, the score was 20-6.

In the fourth quarter, Hillsboro scored six with a Jost pass to Unruh for 86 yards, and a PAT pass that failed.

Leading rushers were Isaac Leihy with 57 yards, Jost with 23 and Bradley Klenda with four.

Leading tacklers were Jost with two solos and six assists and Brandon Brown with two solos and five assists.
