HMS football teams lose one, tie one

Hillsboro Middle School eighth grade football lost Thursday to Halstead, 8-6.

Halstead scored first in the first quarter and completed the two-point conversion. Hillsboro didn't get on the board until the third quarter when Isaac Leihy scored on a 35-yard run. The PAT was no good.

Quarterback Daniel Jost was 2-7-17 yards in passing with one interception. Leihy was 2-17 yards in receiving. In rushing, Jost was 11-5, Leihy 15-82 with one touchdown, Matthew Klenda 8-42, and Landon Unruh 1-5.

Defensively, Tyler Jones had six tackles and Brandon Brown 4.5 tackles. Brown also caused two fumbles, recovering one.

The seventh grade team tied Halstead 12-12. Halstead scored twice in the first half, while the Trojans scored twice in the second half. Neither team could convert the extra points.

Nathan Vogel was 14-131 yards rushing with two touchdowns. Tyler Ediger was 2-0, Christopher Couts, 7-11, and Jacob Edwards, 2-(-11).

Defensively, Elias Krause had 5.5 tackles; Adam Suderman, five tackles; and Couts and Vogel, four tackles each.

The middle school will end its season at 5 p.m. today at home against Wichita Collegiate.
