HMS girls defeat Sterling
Hillsboro Middle School girls' basketball team hosted the Sterling Black Bears last Thursday. All three teams won.
In the eighth grade game, Hillsboro defeated Sterling 24-19.
"This was our first win," said Head Coach Mike Jilka. "They played a good second half and really hustled and never gave up."
Leading in scoring for the Trojans were Courtney Foth and Laura Skiles who had seven points each.
Others scoring were JulieAnne Chisholm with four points, Lora Andrews with three, Laura Lindsey with two, and Kelsi Slayden with one.
The seventh graders defeated Sterling 24-16.
Leading scorers for Hillsboro were Chisholm and Andrews who had eight points each followed by Megan Peachey with six points, and Lauryn Mayfield and Sydney Waner with one point each.
The C-team defeated Sterling 18-16.
Leading the scoring for Hillsboro were Chelsey Harmon with five points and Alysha Claassen with four. Others scoring were Waner and Megan McCarty with three points each, Andrea Jost with two, and Tina Frick with one.
The teams will travel to Wichita Thursday to take on the Wichita Collegiate Spartans. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
