HMS Invitational held at Marion

The Hillsboro Middle School track teams hosted their first meet of the season last Thursday in Marion. Due to problems at Reimer Field, the Trojan Invitational was held at Marion. Participating schools included Abilene, Berean, Centre, Halstead, Herington, Hesston, Hillsboro, Marion, and Peabody.

"I appreciate Marion hosting the meet," said head Coach Dennis Boldt. "They have a beautiful facility and did a great job running the events. We hope to have our track repaired for our next meet," he said.

According to Boldt, seven new school records were set at the meet. Four new records were established in a new middle school event — triple jump. Also new this year is the six-pound shot put the girls are using. Two records were established in this area as well.

Kelsie Penner set a new seventh grade pole vault record, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches.

"I felt the kids competed extremely well," said Boldt, "and now we have established times and distances for each competitor to improve on throughout the season."

The teams competed on Thursday in a MCAA-MLA quad at Lyons and will host a MCAA-MLA quad on April 11 at Reimer Field.
