HMS netters win at Halstead
Hillsboro Middle School volleyball teams traveled Thursday to Halstead and defeated the Dragons.
The eighth grade team defeated Halstead 25-15, 25-19.
Scoring for the Trojans were Sarah Heidel with nine points followed by Candace Ediger with eight, Shelby Koons and Kelsey Bartel with five each, and Tiffany Rooker and Cassie Kroeker with two each.
"Sarah made nine consecutive points serving, and Tiffany had a great match hitting," head coach Stephanie Sinclair said.
The eighth grade junior varsity team won 25-10, 25-12.
Clara Ens scored 16 points followed by Shelby Koons with 12, Sara Jones with three, and Kelsey Bartel and April Young with two each.
"Shelby and Clara served fabulously," Sinclair said.
The seventh grade girls defeated Halstead 25-11, 25-23. Scoring for the team were Jandee Miles with seven points, Briana Loewen with six, Candace Weinbrenner with five, Samantha Soyez with four, Sarah Unruh with three, Natasha Hollingshead with two, and Taryn Mayfield with one.
In the seventh grade junior varsity game, Hillsboro won 25-9, 25-15.
Leading scorer was Brandi Boucher with 15 points followed by Mieke Serene with seven, Brittany McInnis and Katrina Muzyka with three each, Amanda Roble with two, and Trisha Pankratz with one.
"Awesome serving made this an easy win," Sinclair said.
The teams will play against Wichita Collegiate at 4:30 p.m. today in Hillsboro.
