HMS volleyball team hosts Hesston

Hillsboro Middle School volleyball team hosted Hesston Thursday at the HMS gymnasium.

The eighth grade varsity team lost to Hesston in the first game 25-20, but came back to win the second 26-24. They lost the third game 25-22 and the match.

"We just did not hold a lead and played flat," coach Stephanie Sinclair said. "Hesston has a skilled team."

Sinclair said it was service errors in game three that took the team out of their chances to win.

Scoring for the Trojans were Candace Ediger with 14 points, Cassie Kroeker with 10, Abi Humber with six, Kelsey Bartel with five, Jet Skiles with two, and Sarah Heidel and Clara Ens with one each.

In the eighth grade junior varsity game, Hillsboro defeated Hesston 25-15, 25-15.

"The girls showed a lot of consistency," Sinclair said.

Scoring for the team were Ens with eight points, Shelby Koons with six, Bartel with five, Ediger with four, Kassidi Luthi with two, and Heidel, Tiffany Rooker, and Sara Jones with one each.

The seventh grade varsity girls also defeated Hesston 25-13, 25-18.

"Excellent serving by Samantha (Soyez) made a huge difference in the first game," Sinclair said. "She had six ace serves."

"Consistency throughout the whole match keeps us winning," Sinclair added.

Scoring for the Trojans were Samantha Soyez with 15 points followed by Briana Loewen with eight, Dakota Kaufman with five, Candace Weinbrenner with three, and Jandee Miles and Heather Goldsby with one each.

The seventh grade junior varsity defeated Hesston 25-10, 25-12.

Scoring for the team were Katrina Musk with nine points, Heather Goldsby with eight, Brittany McInnis and Natasha Hollingshead with four each, Tara Simhiser and Trish Pankratz with three each, and Dianne Sanders and Amanda Roble with one each.

The teams will play Sterling at 4:30 p.m. today in Sterling.
