HMS wrestlers host first meet
The Hillsboro Middle School wrestling team opened the season Tuesday with matches against Lyons and St. John's Academy.
With a field of 28 wrestlers in grades seven and eight, the team won both matches.
Scott O'Hare and Len Coryea are the coaches this year.
"I thought we wrestled very well for our first match," coach Len Coryea said. "We have 28 boys out now and they are very cooperative in trying to learn this sport."
The team defeated St. John's, 56-28 and Lyons, 59-33.
According to Coryea, this is the first time HMS has defeated Lyons Middle School "in a least six years."
The team will travel Monday to Whitewater for matches against Remington and Chase County. Starting time is 4 p.m.
They will travel March 6 to Lyons for the Lyons Middle School tournament. Matches begin at 9 a.m.
"Starting 2-0 is just great for these kids," Coryea said.
