Holly Days contest winners announced
The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce has announced winners of various contests and drawings held at Holly Days this past weekend:
In the Snowflake King and Queen essay contest sponsored by Parkside Homes, Snowflake Queen, Mary Loewen, was nominated by her granddaughter, Riley Loewen. The Snowflake King, Elmo Rahe, was nominated by his granddaughter, Shelly Arnold.
Loewen rode a golf cart in the parade, but Elmo wasn't able to participate.
In the drawings at downtown businesses, Joni Calam won the furniture assembly kit and drill from Hillsboro Hardware; Sydney Magathan won the slim camera from Quick Flick Radio Shack; Harriet Suderman won the holiday stay from Country Haven Inn; Art Suderman won the gift bag from The Cut Above; Vicky Mohn won the ornament from Nancy's Fashions; Linda Johnson won the pitcher from ClayWorks; Denise Woelk won the candle holders from Hillsboro Furniture; Leda Graybill won the big stuffed dog from Thee Bookstore; and Kendra Faul, Taylor Vogt, and Braden Vogt won books from the Hillsboro Free Press.
The Holly Days parade winners were: first prize: Dan Dalke, antique tractor. Second prize: Quilts & Quilt Racks float. Third prize: Vogt's Hometown Market float.
And, in the first-ever Holly Days Chili Cookoff: first place: Bob Previtera. Second place: Dustin Dalke. Third place: Marisa Root. (See story, Pg. 1).
