HPD: Internet scams reported
A business owner reported an attempted Internet scam to Hillsboro Police Department Sept. 20. Individuals ordered merchandise from the business but gave a false address and used an invalid credit card number. In a prior attempt, another local business shipped items purchased with a stolen credit card. The items were retrieved by the business owner but he had to pay handling costs.
Sept. 17: Responses were given to commercial alarms in Hillsboro Heights and the 600 block of North Ash Street. A lost bank bag thought to be stolen during Arts and Crafts Fair was returned. A motorist received assistance. A dog complaint was filed in the 500 block of East Grand Street.
Sept. 18: An officer assisted with Ident-A-Kid program during Big Truck Night at the police department. A skunk complaint was made in the 600 block of Ash Street.
Sept. 19: A set of keys were turned in. Suspicious activity was checked in the 100 block of North Madison Street. Assistance was provided with a civil conviction.
Sept. 20: EMS received assistance with a call in the 600 block of East A Street. Marion County Sheriff's Department received assistance with cattle on a roadway.
Thursday: A 911 disconnect was checked in the 500 block of East Grand Street. An abandoned vehicle was reported in the 300 block of North Ash Street. Officers assisted with severe weather watch. A report was made of an individual urinating on a vehicle in the 200 block of South Kennedy Street.
Friday: Assistance was provided to a federal agency with a background investigation. Two female juveniles were reported damaging property at Tabor College. Brad Davidson, 415 S. Main, reported the theft of a stereo from his vehicle while it was parked in front of his residence; total loss was estimated at $200.
Saturday: Assistance was provided with a reckless driver on U.S.-56. Suspicious activity was checked in the 400 block of South Main Street. Suspicious people were checked on West Grant Street.
