Important info

The right to access public information isn't something that only reporters and media types should be interested in.

It's something that everyone should take an interest in — especially parents.

Here's why: Do you know that registered sex offenders live in your community?

The State of Kansas has made it easy to find out who these individuals are: dial up your Web browser to http://www.accesskansas. org.

Since 1996, all sex offenders in Kansas who committed offenses after April 14, 1994, have been "registered" on a database that's available for anyone to see.

Did you know that there are 11 registered sex offenders in Marion County? They live in almost every town in the county, from Florence to Tampa to Lost Springs. Even in Hillsboro.

Log on to this Web site, and you can see who they are and where they live. Again, start out by visiting www.accesskansas.org and click on the appropriate links. Or, head straight to the site: www.accesskansas.org/kbi/ro.htm.

This is public information for anyone to see. Take advantage of this right.
