Indigo Road slated for new overlay
Thirteen miles of South Indigo will be overlaid yet this year if weather permits.
Bid documents will be prepared with bid letting in two weeks. Construction could begin by late October.
During Monday's meeting, Marion County Commission instructed engineer Mike Olsen, of Kirkham and Michael, to obtain bids and begin the project.
"A few spots (on the road) need to have material built-up," Olsen said. "Otherwise it's in pretty good shape."
Funds have been budgeted at $50,000 per mile for a two-inch overlay. Olsen recommended at least a one-and-one-half inch overlay, which should be less per mile than originally budgeted.
Olsen said he prefers asphalt be laid in the fall.
"I like to see the asphalt go through a winter before harvest," Olsen said.
Indigo and other county roads are used extensively during the spring and summer months for harvest equipment and farm vehicles.
