Inmates may be required to pay their own way

Marion County inmates may be required to pay their way when staying in the local jail.

Marion County Commission is considering a resolution that would charge inmates for meals, use of clothing and bedding, transportation, and hygiene products.

In other business:

— County employees may lose sick leave benefits. The commission is considering a short-term disability insurance that would eliminate the need for the county to pay employees 100 percent of their wages when they aren't working.

Instead employees would receive 66-2/3 percent of their wages for illness or injury.

— Numerous county roads are slated for re-sealing this spring. Fifty-two miles are planned in the project throughout the county.

— Consolidating law enforcement into one countywide entity also is being researched by the commission.

— An illegal salvage operation in rural Peabody was given a timeline to assist with becoming compliant and being issued a conditional use permit.

A survey must be completed within 90 days and the majority of a fence erected by Oct. 1.

— Zoning changes may be made at Marion County Park and Lake regarding the mobile home park. Currently the park is not zoned which puts it in the agriculture category.

— Property valuations will be mailed this week from the county appraiser's office.
