It's about time
Any Hillsboro cell phone user, whether you own one now or are considering buying one, should jump for joy when they hear this news:
Alltel wants to put a cell tower in Hillsboro.
No, not just near Hillsboro — right inside the city limits. On the old AMPI property, to be more exact.
For those of us who either own a cell phone now or have in the past, all we can say is this: It's about time!
Put very bluntly, cell phone service in the Hillsboro area is a joke. We're the largest town in the county, yet we have horrible cell phone service.
Step inside a building, and you'll see why. It's that annoying little "No Signal" that pops up on your phone's screen. Your cell phone becomes useless once you're indoors.
Outdoors, you've got to stand in the right position, aiming your phone in the right direction, just to get a semi-decent signal.
That's why this news about a possible new cell tower is wonderful.
The city should do everything possible to get this tower in place as soon as possible. It should cooperate with Alltel whenever possible.
When that tower is finally up, we'll all rejoice.
