Jason Hamm captures derby crown
The 2007 Marion County Fair wrapped up Saturday night in Hillsboro with the demolition derby.
Two pairs of brothers and Lehigh's Scott Schultz, rounded out the top five finishers for the fair's traditional best-selling event.
Hillsboro natives Jason Hamm and Matt Foth hit head-on in the middle with Hamm losing his transmission in the feature event on the last hit.
Foth's car caught fire for the second time, leaving Hamm the winner of $1,100, and Foth with $800. An extra $100 went to heat winners.
Hamm's brother Jesse, also of Hillsboro, finished third, with Schultz and Brad Foth taking fourth and fifth respectively.
Schultz and Darcy Unrau advanced to the final heat by winning the opening heat.
Phil Klenda and Jesse Hamm moved on from the second heat, and Phillip Terrell and Russell Klenda won the third. The top two finishers won the fourth heat as Brad Foth and Matt Druse qualified from the first consolation.
Steve McCombs and Jason Bernhardt made it in, surviving the second consolation.
Dustin Looney won the compact heat with derby chairman Lloyd Anderson's car also catching fire.
In the "Last Man Standing" heat, Brandon Moss managed to outlast Todd Redger.
