Jim Clark becomes an Eagle Scout

In a ceremony July 21 at Durham Community Center, Jim Clark was presented with the Eagle Scout Award, the highest award possible in the Boy Scouts of America organization.

According to Scout records, only two to five percent of Boy Scouts reach that level. The award reflects excellence in leadership, service to community, and mastery of numerous skills. Jim has earned 21 merit badges, 11 of which were required.

His service project, the final requirement for becoming an Eagle Scout, was at Durham City Park. He built two park benches, fixed and repainted equipment, and did ground work.

Jim's parents, Lee and Jane Clark of Durham, are proud of their son's accomplishment. Lee has been scoutmaster of Troop 129 at Hillsboro since 2004 and has guided his son in the Scout program since he was a Tiger Cub.

Jim is one of four Boy Scouts from Troop 129 who have obtained Eagle status in the past year.
